Mobility scholarships consist of a financial contribution from the European Union, to which the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia can add its own funds. The purpose of this financial support is to cover additional expenses that students might incur while studying abroad, compared to the ones in their home country. The Regional Agency for the Right to University Study of Modena and Reggio Emilia provides an additional contribution based on merit and economic conditions for those eligible. The call is usually published around May-June, with the deadline in September.
The financial contribution is not the only aspect of Erasmus+ study mobility scholarships. Holding such scholarships implies obtaining the Erasmus status, which offers several advantages and benefits, the absence of which constitutes obstacles to international student mobility.
Thanks to this status:
- Students continue to pay tuition fees at their home university and are exempt from paying fees at the host university.
- All administrative procedures and contacts between the student and the host university are managed by the Mobility Office according to pre-established procedures and preferential channels, exempting the students from many administrative steps.
- The insurance coverage automatically provided after the enrollment at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is extended to the host institution for the duration of the mobility.
- All activities carried out abroad, previously agreed with the exchange coordinator, are recognized after the return to Italy.
- Partner universities usually reserve a quota of available accommodation for mobility students.
- Students can include this experience in their curriculum vitae.
- Students acquire a good knowledge of the host country's language.
- Living and studying abroad develop independence.
- The mobility period offers a unique opportunity to meet students from all over Europe, make new friends and experiences.
